Do you ever review your personal goals?
Goal setting is an important and practical way to plan your actions in line with your vision for your life. You can’t just keep working on your goals and never stop to find out what you are doing right and what is not going too well. How would you know how things are going?
“Evaluate how things are going with your tasks.”
Find out what stood in your way
Did you stay in line with your vision? If you don’t have a vision for your life or maybe you do but you don’t enjoy setting goals, I will show you the benefits of having a vision. In addition, it makes such a difference to the way to live your daily life and make wise decisions.
Many people are indecisive. One reason for being indecisive is because they are not sure what they want out of life. You want to search your own heart and determine what you want out of life.
God has a good plan for your life. It’s a plan that’ll make you smile. It will take work on your part but if you set your heart to honor God, your plan will line up with his will for your life.
While we all love the freedom we have, we want to use our time wisely. That’s why goal setting will help you do what you purpose to do in your heart. I’m talking about targeting tasks that matter to you so they get done. When you plan your month, you live a life of purpose. Make things happen instead of watching things happen. Create opportunities instead of only searching for opportunities.
Become a ‘go-getter’. That’s because you are decisive and you’ve taken time to figure out what is important to you. Refuse to live a passive life. Don’t wait for someone somewhere to make it happen for you. Nobody is responsible for you and what happens to your future and what happens today.
It’s up to you.
We need connection. We certainly need God and people. There are things we can’t make happen without God’s help.
Review your Personal Goals
Did you hit the target?
Now let us get back to the goals you set for this month. Revisit what you planned to do. Did you make these things happen? Maybe you got distracted. Or you made many things happen yet the things you wanted to do didn’t get done. Or best of all, if you did them all, congratulations!
Improvement
When you review your personal goals, you get to double-check on yourself and see where you’re at. You don’t need to wait for others to review your work. Do it yourself. This will help you improve your own performance. For your own sake and to get the results you’re after.
Passion for your Vision
You want to manage the affairs of your life thoroughly. Look at where you’re at not only how you’re going with your divine purpose but your spiritual life and your physical life. If you keep an eye on your physical fitness, it can contribute to health. When we talk about physical fitness, it’s not only looking good, having a fit body. It’s also having a balance with the body. If you achieve all your goals but you happen to overwork and burnout, how does this help?
Passion for your vision can tempt you to overwork. When you desire to see something happen, work towards it with consistency, you will then reach your destination.
“Work hard but know when to rest.”
Rest when necessary so you won’t burn out and be able to keep going with your vision.
“Let your desire fall in line with God’s passion for your life.”
What to do if things didn’t go well
Life isn’t perfect. However, it’s so important to look into what caused a set goal not to go well if that happened. Did I not manage my time well? Is it your bedtime or waking up time that are interfering with your goals?
‘Get up early and you will have a more productive day.’
What didn’t go well – distraction? The ability not to focus on a task in front of us can waste time. If someone is interrupted, it takes a while to get back into a task and focus on it again. If this is happening, what can you do about it? Find a new strategy that will help you focus on your scheduled task.
Schedule your tasks in a calendar.
Opened Doors
It’s possible some doors opened last month regarding things you want but didn’t expect. Maybe you grabbed those great opportunities but couldn’t attend to some of your goals. Was it worth it to take your focus off your goal?
Goals setting
Goal setting is a perfect framework to get tasks done. However, know you are human. Sometimes things don’t go smoothly for a few reasons. Don’t set a goal that doesn’t look like you have any chance to get it done. Go for a challenge but be reasonable. Have goals that are doable. If they are not doable, break them down into pieces as several tasks. Have faith in what you set out to do. Go from good to great and great to greater.
Unfocused
Everyone can be unfocused. The lack of focus on your goal can lead you to work hard but go sidetrack. So, determine what are the factors standing in your way and leading you sideways. You want to avoid wasting your time; that’s why it helps to work on staying focused.
Celebrate
What are your strengths? Even if you made a few mistakes here and there, surely you would have done things right. So, give yourself a pat on the back; encourage yourself and stay grateful. If you failed with your goals, no one can prevent you from working on that goal this month.
Missed opportunity
Even if you missed a great opportunity, you need to move on. Learn from your mistakes. Also, use that lesson to propel you forward.
“For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again…” Proverb 24:16
Whether you won or didn’t last month, set up your goals and plan to win this month. Don’t give up. Don’t doubt yourself. Overcome doubt.
Conclusion
Reviewing your goals helps you discover both your strengths and weaknesses. Accept that you can’t be strong at everything but you can be your best. No matter where you’re at, be grateful about things that worked out well. As you work on your goals, you can change bits and pieces along the way as needed. You want to stay on the right path, make things happen and progress towards what you want. Keep moving forward by faith.
